Depression isn’t just sadness. It’s a persistent shift in how you experience yourself, your relationships, and the world — a heaviness that doesn’t lift the way ordinary low moods do. It can affect sleep, energy, appetite, concentration, and the sense that things will ever feel different.

Depression is treatable. With evidence-based therapy, most people see meaningful improvement — often without medication, sometimes alongside it. Online therapy makes this work accessible at exactly the moments depression makes it hardest to seek help.

Common Symptoms

  • Persistent low mood that lasts most of the day, most days
  • Loss of interest or pleasure in things that used to matter
  • Fatigue and low energy that doesn't lift with rest
  • Difficulty getting out of bed in the morning
  • Changes in appetite or weight (in either direction)
  • Sleep changes — insomnia, broken sleep, or sleeping too much
  • Difficulty concentrating, making decisions, or remembering things
  • Feelings of worthlessness, guilt, or relentless self-criticism
  • Hopelessness about the future
  • Withdrawal from people you love
  • Physical aches and pains without clear medical cause

Common Causes

  • Genetic vulnerability and family history
  • Biological factors — neurotransmitter regulation, hormonal shifts
  • Major life events — bereavement, divorce, job loss, illness
  • Chronic stress accumulated over time
  • Past trauma, especially in childhood
  • Co-occurring conditions (anxiety, eating concerns, substance use)
  • Postpartum hormonal and identity shifts
  • Chronic medical illness or chronic pain
  • Loneliness, social isolation, or relationship breakdown
  • Some prescription medications as a side effect

How Therapy Helps

Many people with depression find leaving the house exhausting — especially during a low patch. Online therapy lowers that barrier dramatically. Sessions happen from your own space, on your terms, with the same evidence-based approaches used in clinic settings.

Research shows that online cognitive behaviour therapy and behavioural activation are as effective as in-person therapy for moderate depression, and meaningfully better than waiting until you “feel up to” attending in person.

  • No need to leave the house when getting out of bed is already hard
  • Globally accessible — same therapist, wherever you live or travel
  • Sessions in English and Malayalam
  • Flexible scheduling for when energy is lowest
  • Strictly confidential — your employer, family, neighbours don't need to know
  • Continuity if you move, change job, or travel

Our Treatment Approach

Depression therapy works best when it combines understanding (why is this happening for me, now?) with practical action (small steps that gradually rebuild energy and engagement). We draw primarily on Cognitive Behaviour Therapy and behavioural activation — the most extensively researched approaches for depression — with elements of Acceptance and Commitment Therapy where helpful.

For postpartum depression, complex trauma, or treatment-resistant patterns, we adapt the approach accordingly. If thoughts of self-harm or suicide are present, this is a sign to reach out immediately — to us, your local emergency services, or a crisis helpline.

Frequently Asked Questions

Can online therapy really help with depression?

Yes. Online cognitive behaviour therapy and behavioural activation have been shown in multiple large studies to be as effective as in-person therapy for moderate depression. For severe depression, online therapy is often combined with medical input.

How is therapy different from antidepressant medication?

Medication works on brain chemistry. Therapy works on patterns of thinking, behaviour, and life circumstances that maintain depression. Both can be effective; for many people, the combination is most effective. Therapy benefits tend to last longer after treatment ends.

How long until I start feeling better?

Most people notice small changes within the first 3–4 sessions, with meaningful improvement over 8–16 sessions for a typical course. Severe or long-standing depression may benefit from longer-term work. Your therapist will track progress with you.

What if I'm too low to engage with therapy?

That’s a very common concern. The first sessions are deliberately low-effort — your therapist will pace the work to your current capacity. Even attending the session itself, on the difficult days, counts.

Is online depression therapy confidential? Will my employer find out?

Sessions are fully confidential. We don’t share information with employers, insurance, or anyone else without your written consent. Records are stored securely and protected by professional codes of practice.

Can I have therapy from outside India?

Yes. Our therapists work with clients globally. Time zone scheduling, secure video conferencing, and continuity across travel are all standard in online practice.

What if I have thoughts of self-harm?

If you’re experiencing thoughts of harming yourself, please contact local emergency services or a crisis line immediately — in the UK, Samaritans (116 123); in India, iCall (+91 9152987821) or Vandrevala Foundation (1860 2662 345). Therapy is not a crisis service. Once you’re safe, regular therapy can support recovery.

Will therapy make me dependent on it?

Therapy is time-limited for most people — typically 12–20 sessions for depression. The aim is to build skills you can use long after sessions end. Some people choose occasional check-ins after the main course; others don’t need them.

Ready to take the first step?

Taking the first step is easier than you think — no pressure, just a conversation.
